Innovation hub inauguration 28 February 2018 - Report


28th February 2018 - Innovation Hub inauguration was a momentous ocassion for our Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s – Muktangan Exploratory Science Center (MESC). The Innovation Hub which is the first of its kind in Maharashtra State- was inaugurated at the auspicious hands of Padma Bhushan Dr. Jyeshtharaj Joshi, who was the Chief Guest for this event. Guests of honor on this momentous occasion were Shri Sudarshan Mogasale - CEO Dassault Sytemes R & D Lab India, Shri Samarendra Kumar – Director NCSM (Hqrs), Also present were various other Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Pune Kendra & MESC Executive, Advisory Committee members.

The primary objective of the Innovation Hub is to encourage and facilitate students to solve real life problems using scientific principles and technologies learnt through interactions with specialists (mentors). In addition to the problem solving skills, the students will also be guided in designing and fabrication of the final solutions. In the process the Hub will also aim to develop basic skills that are essential for day-to-day life among young children e.g. Wood work, metal fabrication, electrical wiring, plumbing etc.. The children will be also exposed to two important elements- insight into how things work and promote quality culture, with emphasis on aesthetics and fit for use concepts.

Shri Sandeep Natekar, gave a detailed outline of the activities Innovation Hub would be carrying out, while Shri Anant Bhide, Hon. Director, MESC gave an overview of the Exploratory.

Dr Jyeshtharaj Joshi in his inspiring speech brought forth various aspects of Innovation. He stressed that Innovation is intricately linked to the GDP of any country. Innovative ideas drive the economic growth of any economy. He was skeptical about Innovative activities in our country. India he said ranks very poorly in innovation. Innovation helps in solving the problems faced by any economy. In this context, Innovative Hubs have a very pivotal role to play. He talked about how developed economies have larger number of Innovative Hubs compared to our country. For sustained growth and sustained solutions to ever increasing complexities and problems faced by any nation, innovative thinking is the key to solve such problems. One should be imaginative, always have innovative approaches towards problem-solving.

Shri Samerendra Kumar described in brief the working of NCSM. He spoke about the future plans of NCSM which aims at establishing network of 60 innovation hubs throughout the length and breadth of the country. The present one being 23rd Innovation Hub inaugurated today, being the first private party collaboration of NCSM. He hoped that many patented projects will evolve from this Hub.

Shri Sudarshan Mogasale – reaffirmed the support of Dassault Systemes to the activities of this Innovation Hub which said would generate science & technology talent for the nation.

The Innovation Hub will be partly financed and run under the guidance of National Council of Science Museums. Dassault Systemes have also generously financed this project and will be guiding the operations of the Computer, Robotics & Design and Fabrication Labs set up as a part of the Innovation Hub.
